Gyokuro Kotobuki is an Asatsuyu Gyokuro from the prestigious region of Uji, Kyoto. This premium Gyokuro has an oceanic aroma with smooth, rich umami and lingering sweetness. Sip slowly and enjoy the complexities of this high-grade Gyokuro green tea.

Gyokuro, which means “jade dew”? is known as one of Japan’s finest teas. Considered a rare green tea even in Japan.

This jade-colored tea is sweeter, less astringent, and especially high in natural caffeine due to it being grown in shade for 20 days before harvest.

Japanese Gyokuro green tea is aromatic with a smooth, rich umami taste and sweetness that lingers in your mouth.

Lightly roast and dry the spent leaves by pan-frying. Add salt, sesame seeds, etc to your liking. Sprinkle furikake as seasoning over rice and more!

玉露の淹れ方

Step 1 Pour boiling water in a cup or yuzamashi (water cooler) to adjust the water temperature. Recommended water temperature for Gyokuro is 122°F (50°C)-140°F (60°C).

Tip: Pouring hot water into a cup will reduce temperature by 10°C (20°F)

Step 2 Add one teaspoon of Gyokuro into your teapot/kyusu to brew 8oz (1 cup) of tea.

Step 3 Pour the water into the teapot and steep for 2 minutes. Resteep 2-3 times.

Gyokuro is a delicate tea. Brew at low temperatures to avoid bitterness + enhance sweetness

Non-GMO with no sugar, no preservatives, no fillers added, and no chemicals or pesticides.

How many teaspoon (tsp) is needed to brew a cup of tea and How much caffeine is there per cup of tea?

Recommended is approximately 1 to 2 teaspoons for every 8 oz of water but we encourage to experiment with the tea-to-water ratio to match your preference. Gyokuro has approx 140mg caffeine/g, more extracted with higher temp and longer steeping.

How many times can this tea be re-steeped and How many servings or cup of tea can this whole tea tin (50g) make?

You can re-steep it up to 3 times depending on your taste preference. Slightly increase the water temperature with each successive steeping for best results. Get about 30 cups from one tea tin, potentially more since it can be resteeped.

Is there an expiration or manufacture date on the product, and is this tea tested for safety?

Yes. The best-before date is on the kraft paper pouch or at the bottom of the tin. Our teas are also tested for mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticides, and radiation to ensure quality.

What is the difference between the 3 'colors' and does it include the stems?

Differ in aroma-depth-flavor.

Isshin: Fresh-mellow- umami notes, delicate finish for everyday.

Kotobuki: Sweet-rich umami-lingering sweetness for refined enthusiasts.

Mikado: Fragrant-sweet taste-smooth umami, buttery finish for special occasions.

How should I store this tea to maintain its best quality?

Store your tea in its airtight container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, heat, and humidity. We do not recommend refrigeration as temperature changes can introduce moisture and affect the tea’s natural aroma and flavor.
